John Hale holds a Bachelor's degree in Jazz performance from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. While studying in Edwardsville John met Ali Soltanshahi and other musician friends who began playing a unique Mediterranean sounding music together. This was the beginning of
a musical journey that led to the creation of Farshid Etniko.

Rhythmically Farshid Etniko takes inspiration from musical traditions such as Persian Setar music, Samba from Brazil, Reggae from Jamaica, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Son, Afro 6/8 from Cuba, and swing and rock from the U.S.A. Together John and Ali intertwine these rhythms to create a dance that lifts spirits and moves bodies. Whether playing a funky groove or a dancing Samba, John displays the feeling and finesse of a seasoned jazz player. With his gentle approach the music is allowed to breath warmly and lightly, while still being driven forward with an intense fire.

John teaches private lessons in drumming at Drum Headquarters in Maplewood, St. Louis, MO.
